The Gulps have returned with new single ‘Got Ya!’, their first new music since guitarist Francesco Antonio Buffone’s cancer diagnosis in 2024 forced the band into an indefinite hiatus, out now via Downtown Records.
The London trio, who were signed by Alan McGee in 2021 after building a devoted following through relentless live shows, were forced to cancel a planned US tour when Buffone’s diagnosis became known. With Buffone now recovered, the band reconvened and recruited producer Martin “Youth” Glover, whose credits span Killing Joke, The Verve and Pink Floyd, for the sessions that produced ‘Got Ya!’.
The result is the most fully realised thing the band have released: their earlier disco-punk energy intact but refined, the production giving the song a physicality that their previous recordings approached but did not quite reach. Lyrically it is more interior than their earlier work. The band have described the song as capturing “that strange, vulnerable and almost surreal moment of a couple lying in bed after a wild night out”, trapped in an intimate limbo of “chaotic thoughts, twisted truths and a kind of confused tenderness.”
A Water Rats warm-up show on 5th May precedes a European tour supporting PiL, with a UK headline run alongside The Fratellis to follow in early 2027.
