The Murder Capital’s new single Love of Country isn’t just another track from their upcoming album Blindness – it’s a call to action. Released as a surprise single, the song digs into the darker corners of patriotism and nationalism, tackling how these concepts get twisted into dangerous tools by those in power. More than just a sonic assault, it’s a message. And, in keeping with the band’s political spirit, all proceeds from the single are heading straight to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
In a year where political and social divides feel more evident than ever, the track couldn’t be more timely. The band’s mix of bruising post-punk sound and sharp lyricism doesn’t just sound good – it demands something from you. The Murder Capital aren’t here to sit back and watch, and Love of Country is a perfect example of that.
Lead singer James McGovern doesn’t mince words when describing the song: “‘Love of Country’ is a song about the dark side of patriotism and nationalism, and what they become when they are warped and weaponised. Across the world, we are seeing hatred of ‘other’ spreading like a disease. No claiming of land today is more barbaric than the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.”
McGovern continues: “We are releasing a 7” record of ‘Love Of Country’, with 100% of the proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestine. In the face of, and beyond such clear acts of evil, it is more vital than ever to cherish the richness of our diverse communities and the power of human connection. We must stand firm against the rise of nationalist ideologies and speak up for those whose worlds are being torn apart by hatred and violence.”
The urgency in McGovern’s words mirrors the music itself – it’s fast, furious, and impossible to ignore. By streaming or buying Love of Country, listeners aren’t just supporting a band; they’re contributing to a global cause. It’s activism wrapped up in a five-minute post-punk anthem, and it’s available now.
As we barrel towards the end of 2024, the track becomes more than just a political protest. It’s a tangible, immediate way to show solidarity. A rare example of music that doesn’t just reflect the world we live in – it challenges it.
Love of Country is available for streaming and purchase now, with all proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
