The Strokes have debuted their new song ‘Going Shopping’.
The New York band returned over the Easter weekend with news of their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, their first in six years. Now, The Strokes Going Shopping offers the first real glimpse of that material in action.
The group recently played a show at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where Julian Casablancas introduced the track onstage. Live clips quickly surfaced online, capturing a song that leans into the band’s core strengths while nudging their sound forward.
There’s a familiar tightness to the guitar work, echoing the stripped-back urgency of their early material, but it’s offset by a more relaxed, slightly off-kilter feel. Elements of early 80s pop creep in, extending some of the ideas explored on their Grammy-winning 2020 album The New Normal.
Ahead of the performance, the band had begun teasing their return online with a retro-styled clip featuring a Nissan 300ZX and the tagline “In the Flesh, it’s Even Sexier”, signalling a new phase with a distinctly stylised edge.
‘Going Shopping’ has not yet received an official studio release, but the live debut suggests Reality Awaits will continue to balance nostalgia with subtle reinvention.
