Whitney have released their breezy new single ‘Back To The Wind’, accompanied by a skate-inspired video directed by Alex Pennacchia. The track offers a first taste of Small Talk, the duo’s fourth album, due 7th November.
Julien Ehrlich reflects: “What’s stuck with me most about ‘Back To The Wind’ is the way the imagery ended up unfolding across the instrumental. In the past we’ve always insisted each word deliberately led back to the hook. This time it felt more compelling to steer the second half into images that might mean something different to each person who hears it. Also, Max’s guitar solo goes crazy.”
Formed by Ehrlich and Max Kakacek in Chicago, Whitney have built a reputation for warm, soulful indie that blends falsetto vocals with meticulous guitar work. Their debut Light Upon the Lake (2016) established them as one of the most beloved alternative bands of the last decade. New album Small Talk is pitched as a return to form, written and recorded without a producer in the summer of 2024, with friends dropping by to add parts.
The band have also announced a world tour that includes a UK headline run in February 2026, featuring an intimate show at Hackney Church in London. Tickets are available now via whitneytheband.com/shows.
