Indianapolis five-piece Wishy have shared new single and video ‘Sensational’, taken from their second album, Nature’s Pill, out October 2nd via Winspear.
The video, directed by Jess Dunn, was built from around 3,000 paper cutouts of the band, animated into motion; Dunn has written about the process in more detail online. Where the album’s first two singles, ‘All the Rage’ and ‘Lovesick’, stuck closely to the ’90s-inflected guitar pop the band are known for, ‘Sensational’ marks a departure, growing out of singer and guitarist Kevin Krauter’s experiments with drum loops into a fusion of sugary grunge and dream pop, still carrying the band’s usual mix of playful lyrics and instantly memorable choruses.
Nature’s Pill follows 2024’s widely praised debut, Triple Seven, which drew comparisons ranging from Stereogum’s assessment of it as one of the finest indie rock debuts in recent memory to Pitchfork calling Krauter a standout voice in a new generation of shoegaze. Between the two albums, the band also released EPs Mana and Paradise (2023) and Planet Popstar (2025).
Where Triple Seven was written largely by Krauter and bandmate Pitchkites separately, Nature’s Pill was a more collaborative process, with the full band contributing to writing and half the album tracked live in a Los Angeles studio with returning producer Ben Lumsdaine. Pitchkites has said the songs came together with more intention this time, while Krauter has described the pressure of building toward what felt like a definitive project. The result blends the ’90s dream pop and alt-rock of their debut with ’80s college rock and ’00s indie influences.
Thematically, the album moves between breakup songs and more abstract meditations on romantic frustration and desire, filtered through a fictionalised, non-confessional lens. Krauter has summed up the mood behind it plainly, saying “being in an indie band feels bizarre when the world is on fire.”
The release comes after a busy touring summer for the band, playing US dates alongside The Beths and Beach Bunny. Wishy have now announced a run of West Coast headline shows, adding to previously confirmed East Coast and Midwest dates, with support across the tour from youbet, The Umbrellas, Dead Sullivan and Touch Girl Apple Blossom.
