Wolf Alice have shared the video for ‘Just Two Girls’, the latest single from their chart-topping fourth album The Clearing.
Directed by Colin Solal Cardo and choreographed by Ryan Heffington, the clip stars Lucy Boynton as one half of a pair of friends who turn a quiet night out into playful chaos. Across bar tables and restaurant floors, the two move with a mix of ease and exuberance, capturing the spirit of the song’s celebration of female friendship.
Ellie Rowsell explains the song’s inspiration: “I was inspired by going for dinner with my friends – a couple of friends, at different times, just one-on-one. I noticed how much I was saying Oh my god yeah you’re so right! And I thought it was so nice to see how validating these conversations with my girlfriends are, how much I’m learning in these chats.
“I think I’ve been trying to figure out a lot of things, like getting older. I feel it’s really been a strange time of thinking about appearance. And these are things you hash out with your girlfriends and suddenly you don’t feel so shit about them again. I just felt like there deserved to be a song about that.”
The release of The Clearing last month was met with widespread acclaim, with NME, DIY and Dork all awarding five stars, and Mojo calling it the band’s “best yet.” The record sees the London quartet expand into more confident, widescreen territory while maintaining the melodic instincts that have defined their career.
Wolf Alice will take the album on their biggest ever world tour later this year, including two landmark shows at London’s O2 Arena in December.
