John Lennon returns! The legendary Beatle is set to be the focus of a new film, written by Anthony McCarten.
After a disastrous Broadway musical, John Lennon seems to be getting his own film. According to Showbiz 411, McCarten’s script is finished and the film is close to becoming a reality. There is no word on potential stars or a director.
Yoko Ono is said to be on producing duties as is her son Sean Ono Lennon with Beatles reported to be on board as “an entity.” The film is said to feature mostly John Lennon’s solo songs as well as “five key Lennon Beatles songs.” Producers reportedly have access to the entire catalogue of Beatles songs.
The film is said to focus on Lennon’s youth as well as his work for The Beatles, his relationship with Ono and his relationship with May Pang whom Lennon left Ono for before returning to her 18 months later.
McCarten also penned the script for Bohemian Rhapsody, a wildly popular film about the rise and fall of Queen and the film won an Oscar for Rami Malek’s furious (and a little infuriating) performance as Freddie Mercury. It remains to be seen if his Lennon adaptation can be equally, or more, successful.
