Nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards have just been revealed and All Quiet on The Western Front leads the pack with 14 nominations.
Actors Hayley Atwell and Toheeb Jimoh revealed nominations from BAFTA headquarters in London. Earlier this week, the nominees for the BAFTA Rising Star Award were also revealed.  The BAFTAs are usually a reliable pre-cursor to the Oscars, which will announce their nominees on Tuesday.  After the longlists were revealed, Netflix’s war drama All Quiet on The Western Front and Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin were the two clear frontrunners. In the end, All Quiet on The Western Front led the pack with 14 nominations, followed closely by Banshees with 10 and Everything Everywhere All At Once, also with 10 nominations.

Biggest snubs were in the Best Director category. Steven Spielberg and James Cameron both missed out on a nomination, while Park Chan-Wook, Edward Berger and Gina Prince-Bythe all managed to secure their place in the top six. Baz Luhrmann also failed to get a Director nod, but Elvis did score a Best Film nomination.  Brendan Fraser and Austin Butler are currently the two frontrunners for Best Actor across all awards ceremonies, especially after Butler took home the Golden Globe. Both are nominated for their respective performances in The Whale and Elvis. The Best Actress category is delightfully stacked. It’ll mostly likely come down to a battle between two industry legends, Cate Blanchett for Tár and Michelle Yeoh for Everything Everywhere All At Once, but Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis might just give them a run for their money.

The BAFTA ceremony will take place on 19 February at the Royal Festival Hall. Actor Richard E. Grant will host the prestigious event, while Alison Hammond will lead a behind-the-scenes studio, getting all the best reactions and commentary going.
