“We’re gonna kick this country awake, even if it kills us” claims one of the Sex Pistols in the new, albeit brief trailer for Pistol.

Created by Craig Pearce and directed by Danny Boyle, Pistol will chronicle the band’s rise to fame as the new stars of punk-rock in England.

The miniseries has had a troubled production as former lead singer Johnny Rotten, real name John Lydon, tried to block bandmates Paul Cook and Steve Jones from using the band’s music in the series.

Lydon lost the battle last August, after a judge ruled Cook and Jones should have majority voting rules in licensing the band’s material. In the 42-second trailer, we see just a glimpse of the grungy, dirty 1970s London and it also features some funky Dutch angles as well as plenty of handheld camera action.

Pistol is based on Steve Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales From A Sex Pistol and stars an intriguing mix of new faces and industry pros, including Maisie Williams, Toby Wallace and Anson Boon. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on May 31.
