Friendly Fires have announced their new album, Dig Deeper, out January 15th 2027, alongside lead single ‘Magnetic’.
It’s the fourth album from childhood friends Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson, and the follow-up to 2008’s self-titled, Mercury Prize-nominated debut, 2011’s Pala and 2019’s Inflorescent, arriving after nearly a decade of work on new material. Macfarlane has called it “some of the best music we’ve written,” describing the process of getting looser with their songwriting and drilling down into what makes the band’s sound distinctive after a period of doubt and unfinished ideas.
Alongside the wider creative reset, the pair have said the record was shaped by loss, including the death of a friend from their youth and another close friend who died during the making of the album. They’ve also described digging back through years of archived material and influences, from 70s Talking Heads and New Order through Balearic and baggy sounds to mid-2000s nu-rave, a lineage they say runs directly through the new record. James Dring, known for his work with Jamie T and Gorillaz, mixed the album.
New single ‘Magnetic’ explores the pull of attraction and how much control we really have over it.
Friendly Fires will play an intimate show at London’s Moth Club on September 24th, with fans able to sign up for a ticket chance and exclusive access to a limited-edition Dig Deeper bundle featuring live tracks from the show, with the pre-sale window opening at 9am BST on Friday 18th September.
