The actor, who is attempting to make a comeback, is reportedly set to be charged with four accounts of assault in the UK.
The potential charges against the actor are of sexual assault against three men. Spacey was first accused of sexual predatory behaviour and abuse by Anthony Rapp in 2017. After Rapp’s allegations, an avalanche of other allegations came and Spacey’s career, rightfully, collapsed.
Spacey is set to begin a trial in the US this October over Rapp’s accusations, but this is the first time the actor is set to be charged on UK soil. The alleged offences happened in London and Gloucestershire between 2005 and 2013. The 62-year-old Oscar-winner has been mostly absent from the big screen, although he released somewhat unnerving videos online on Christmas Eve three years in a row.
Spacey has been attached to a couple of new films that are in production and had just been announced to be starring in the film 1242 – Gateway to the West.
“The CPS has authorised criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men” said Rosemary Ainslie, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division.
“He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”
Spacey has not commented, but has denied previous allegations against him.
