The streaming wars continue and we’re about to get a new key player as Paramount Plus is set to launch in the UK next month.
Paramount have reported that their subscription service currently has about 40 million subscribers. They gained 6.8 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, making the service quite a success. And UK folks can get it next month – on June 22nd to be specific.
Just last month, we wrote how Netflix is losing subscribers for the first time in a decade, leading them to consider adverts on their service as well streaming numbers being on the decline in general. Paramount Plus seems confident in their growth, projecting to have their streaming service in 60 markets by the end of the year.
Paramount is the home for many things and one of its biggest owned IPs is Star Trek. When Star Trek: Discovery disappeared from Netflix UK, rumours circulated whether we too would soon get to enjoy yet another streaming service. And, it transpires, we do.
Along with Star Trek, Paramount Plus will be home to cult show South Park and Paramount is also the studio behind the latest Scream instalment, so it’s probably safe to assume the film will pop up there. Paramount Plus boasts over 8,000 hours of content but we’ll find out the specific titles when the service launches.
Paramount Plus is also developing a new Jackass series after the success of Jackass Forever, so if that’s to your liking you can subscribe to it in June for £6.99 per month or £69.90 for a year.
