Steve Lacy has announced his third studio album Oh yeah?, due 17th July via RCA Records, alongside new single ‘the feeling’.
The release comes four years after Gemini Rights, the 2022 album whose single ‘Bad Habit’ became one of the defining viral moments of that year, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and soundtracking over 710,000 TikTok videos. Lacy wrote, performed and produced Oh yeah? entirely himself, a process shaped in part by a breakup he experienced last autumn. His label reportedly suggested he make happier songs; the emotional depth of the period seeped into the music regardless. The result is described as his most personal and transparent work to date, an album designed to let listeners further into his world than his previous releases allowed.
A first single, ‘Nice Shoes’, arrived in August 2025, hinting at new sonic territory through a jungle-inspired breakbeat that gave way to a classic slow-rolling Lacy guitar melody. ‘the feeling’ deepens that portrait further: groovy and unsettled, it fuses wah-wah bass lines with cavernous melodies and alternates between dreamy pop and laconic rap in a way that draws clear comparisons to Prince. “Am I your baby?” Lacy asks in the song’s emotional centre, the question carrying the particular vulnerability that has come to define his best work.
The album’s cover was shot by filmmaker Gus Van Sant. Lacy performs at Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Osaka in August. In a detail that feels entirely fitting, Oh yeah? shares a release date with Syd’s album Beard – his close friend and bandmate in The Internet.
