Cannes Film Festival is over for another year and as Liverpool and Real Madrid were battling it out for the Champions League trophy on Saturday, film fans were anxiously following the Cannes Awards ceremony.

Ruben Östlund won his second Palme D’Or with his satirical new film, Triangle of Sadness. Starring Harris Dickinson, Charlbi Dean and Woody Harrelson, the film focuses on two models who are invited on a luxury yacht. We hear the film includes a lot of vomit and diarrhoea, but then again, Cannes did award the Palme to a (great) film in which a woman is impregnated by a car last year in Titane. Clearly, anything is possible at Cannes.

Meanwhile, Park Chan-Wook won Best Director for his film Decision to Leave and Song-Kang Ho took home Best Actor for Broker, which was directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. Best Actress went to Zar Amir Ebrahimi for Holy Spider.

Claire Denis’ divisive new film Stars at Noon, starring Joe Alwyn and Margaret Qualley, received the Grand Prix award which it shared with Lukas Dhont’s Close. Close was the forerunner and audience favourite to win the Palme, but it had to settle for second place, while Östlund collected the main prize yet again. Östlund won in 2017 with his film The Square
