Organised by Communion Music and Sounds of Solidarity, the event will take place on 15 April, and will also see performances from Dermot Kennedy, Hozier, Nilüfer Yanya and an exclusive live performance by the newly formed Solidarity Ensemble, which comprises of musicians from Turkey and Syria. Broadcaster, musician and actor Jumoké Fashola and the actor Halit Ergenç are set to host the event, with appearances from Olivia Colman, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and comedian Omid Djalili also set to feature. All funds from the event will be in aid of War Child and the Turkey Mozaik Foundation, to help in response to the earthquakes that have besieged Turkey and Syria since 6 February, and which have thus far killed tens of thousands of people.
The first earthquake was a magnitude of 7.8 and struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria on 6 February. This was the worst earthquake Turkey had experienced since a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit in Marmara, in August 1999. Other aftershock earthquakes hit, include sizeable ones on 20 February and 27 February. Speaking ahead of the fundraising event, Mumford has said: “I’ve been a Global Ambassador for War Child UK since 2014 and in that time I’ve been privileged to see their vital work in Central African Republic, Iraq, Gaza and Jordan. “But now, more than ever, they need our support to help provide safety, education and psycho-social support for children in conflict zones and I’m deeply honoured to be standing alongside these brilliant artists to amplify their incredible work.” Click here for more information.Following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, we're hosting a charity fundraiser on 15 April in aid of War Child and the Turkey Mozaik Foundation.
