Hull-based genre-splicing outfit Bdrmm are back with Infinity Peaking, a track that’s as much about evolution as it is experimentation. The single teases their upcoming third album, Microtonic, due out on 28th February via Mogwai’s Rock Action label.
As fans of shoegaze with an electronic twist might expect, this latest offering walks the line between ethereal joy and sonic ingenuity. “Infinity Peaking perfectly encapsulates the band we were and the band we are now,” explains guitarist and vocalist Ryan Smith. “It’s a track that is full of true joy (despite the lyrics) and it was a pleasure to work on in the studio. We’re always happiest when we’re sat on the floor of the studio surrounding the latest pedal we bought, each dying to have a pass on it.”
The band’s evolution owes much to moments like a support slot with Daniel Avery and a euphoric trip to Field Day. Inspired, they’ve shifted further into electronic territory, embracing a broader palette of sounds. This isn’t to say the guitars have disappeared (far from it!) but now they’re part of a richer, more expansive mix.
Recorded with long-term collaborator Alex Greaves, Microtonic features contributions from Sydney Minsky Sargeant of Working Men’s Club and Olivesque of Nightbus. The record promises a bold step forward for the band, with Ryan confessing, “I felt very constrained writing a certain type of music to fit the genre [we were known for], but something lifted, and I felt more free to create what I want.”

The band’s March tour will give fans the chance to hear their new material live:
