Blondshell, the musical moniker of Sabrina Teitelbaum, has announced details of her highly anticipated second album, If You Asked For A Picture, set for release on 2nd May 2025. The announcement comes alongside the release of the new single, ‘T&A’, a track that blends humour, self-awareness, and vulnerability into an accidental love story.
“There’s a Rolling Stones song on Tattoo You called ‘Little T&A’, and at one point, he says ‘tits and ass,’ so I’m borrowing that,” Teitelbaum explains. “I think in music, it’s easy to see things as either more sexualized or more romantic, and I wanted this to be both. I see it as a love story—maybe not the most fairy tale love story—but I wanted it to feel like a really narrative song.”
The video for ‘T&A’, directed by Hannah Bon, takes a playful turn on the old “men are like dogs” adage, pairing three rescue dogs with human counterparts. It’s equal parts cheeky and thought-provoking, highlighting the vulnerability hidden beneath bravado.
The album’s title draws from Mary Oliver’s 1986 poem “Dogfish,” which explores the delicate balance between sharing personal stories and keeping parts private. For Teitelbaum, this resonated deeply during the writing process. “There’s a part of the poem that says: ‘I don’t need to tell you everything I’ve been through. It’s just another story of somebody trying to survive,’” she says.
This sentiment underscores the album’s approach: capturing moments rather than the entire picture. “The first record feels really black-and-white to me. This record has more questions,” she adds.
Returning to the studio with producer Yves Rothman, Teitelbaum embraced a more confident, exploratory approach. Influences ranged from the gritty tones of Queens of the Stone Age’s Rated R to the polished introspection of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication. The result swings from colossal hooks to intimate ballads, challenging conventions and reappropriating traditionally masculine rock aesthetics.
“It’s empowering for me to use sonic references that feel reserved for men,” Teitelbaum says, reflecting on how these influences complement her deeply personal examinations of young womanhood.
Since the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut in 2023, Blondshell has become a fixture in the alt-rock world, touring relentlessly and building a devoted fan base. However, the near-constant travel has also sparked questions about identity and belonging.
“When you travel a lot, you see different possibilities for who you can be,” she reflects. “What do I want my life to look like? Maybe it’s just the nature of being two years older, but I’m more comfortable with nuance now, and I’m more comfortable with grey areas.”
The result is a no-skips second album that dives into the complexities of self-discovery without pretending to have all the answers.
If You Asked For A Picture will feature 12 tracks, including ‘T&A’ and the previously released ‘What’s Fair,’ described by Rolling Stone as a “cathartic rocker.”
