The pair have clearly not fancied promoting their latest project in typical fashion and found innovative ways to bypass the usual media circuit accompanying a release. Not only have they deepfaked an interview with legendary SiriusXM host Howard Stern, where 21 Savage jokingly (we think) admitted his favourite book is Charlotte’s Web, but they’ve also carried out a mock NPR Tiny Desk Concert and placed themselves on the cover of a fictitious Vogue issue. They’ve also “appeared” on an SNL skit, introduced by actor Michael B. Jordan, ironically performing ‘On BS’ – ironic because it was, in fact, a made-up BS skit. Their latest trick sees them perform ‘Privileged Rappers’ on the popular-yet-oh-so-simple COLORS channel in a gold room. What’s great about these works is that, albeit counterfeit, they have substance. The duo’s COLORS performance of one of the better tracks on the album is undoubtedly of a standard like any other COLORS show. And by mocking some of the most popular outlets, they’re taking it into their own hands, not allowing the media to dictate their promo, all the while giving the fans what they want.
