Ethel Cain has unveiled her latest project, Perverts, a 90-minute collection exploring dark ambient sounds and experimental textures. Released today, the project builds on the artist’s ability to create immersive sonic worlds, blending moments of eerie dissonance with melodic beauty.
Written, produced, and mixed entirely by Cain, Perverts marks a shift toward a more atmosphere-driven approach. Tracks like ‘Punish’ and ‘Amber Waves’ highlight her talent for crafting haunting melodies, while pieces such as ‘Houseofpsychoticwomn’ delve into experimental soundscapes. According to Cain, the release reflects themes of physical and spiritual transcendence, as well as the emotional weight of proximity to the divine.
“Poke a hole in yourself and see what comes out,” Cain says, offering a typically enigmatic reflection on the project. “It’s ok to be weak. You were born like this for a reason.”
Perverts follows Cain’s sold-out 2024 Childish Behaviour tour and serves as a continuation of the world-building she began with her 2022 debut album Preacher’s Daughter. That record, which featured the breakout track ‘American Teenager’, is set for its first vinyl release on 4th April 2025.
With Perverts, Cain once again demonstrates her commitment to pushing creative boundaries, offering an introspective and deeply atmospheric listening experience.
