Gia Ford has finally released her long-anticipated debut album Transparent Things, and not only has she delivered an impressive collection of dream pop gems, but she’s also hitting the road for a series of in-store acoustic performances across the UK, followed by her first-ever headline tour in November.
Transparent Things is a striking first effort from Gia, who has been making waves with her unique blend of atmospheric soundscapes and bold storytelling. “Most of the characters in these songs are outcasts, all with unique ways of feeling on the periphery, somehow,” she explains. The album, recorded at LA’s famous Sound City Studios with producer Tony Berg (the same guy behind Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher), features a haunting cast of characters that ranges from lonely housewives to serial killers. According to DORK, the record is “a gallery of carefully crafted portraits” and Wonderland says it’s “everything one could hope for from a debut project.”
The lead singles, including ‘Try Changing’ and ‘Poolside’, have already set the tone, with Gia’s vocals and songwriting receiving nods from the likes of Elton John, who praised the album as “beautifully produced, beautiful record, beautiful songs.” Ford herself has said the album explores alienation, and with her knack for bringing the stories of society’s misfits to life, there’s a dark yet compelling quality to each track.
With the album now out in the wild, Gia is taking things up a notch with a series of intimate acoustic in-store performances, starting at Rough Trade West in London on 13th September. These small shows will give fans a chance to see her stripped-back and up close before the main event—her UK headline tour kicking off in November.
Whether it’s the eerie ‘Housewife Dreams of America’ or the introspective ‘Paint Me Like a Woman’, Gia has proven she’s not afraid to dig into uncomfortable truths through her music. And if her live shows are anything like her debut album, fans are in for an experience that blurs the lines between reality and fiction.
