Hachiku are. The Naarm/Melbourne-based indie-rock/alt-pop project fronted by Anika Ostendorf has just announced their sophomore album, The Joys of Being Pure at Heart, set for release on 28th February 2025 via Marathon Artists.

The album features their first new music in four years, including the newly released single ‘Tell Your Friends You Love Them,’ which is out now with an accompanying video:

This new album follows Hachiku’s well-received debut I’ll Probably Be Asleep (2020) and sees Ostendorf delve into more personal territory, exploring themes of vulnerability, connection, and honesty. “I spent a long time feeling constantly split, like my head was forever in two places at once. I was never satisfied but forever anxious,” Ostendorf shares about the new single.

“This is me coming to terms with being stuck, embracing the not knowing and getting comfortable with that.”

The album promises a richly textured indie-pop experience, with Hachiku’s signature atmospheric guitars and synths blending seamlessly. The Joys of Being Pure at Heart also brings collaboration to the forefront, with contributions from renowned harpist Mary Lattimore and classical group The Newmarket Collective, elevating the band’s sound into new, genre-defying territory.

With catchy melodies and shimmering walls of sound, Hachiku has built a loyal global fanbase, having toured with big names like Courtney Barnett, José González, and Snail Mail. If ‘Tell Your Friends You Love Them’ is anything to go by, this new record is sure to make waves when it drops early next year.
