Man/Woman/Chainsaw have shared ‘Something Else To Give’, the closing track of their debut album Cannonball, out 7th August via Fiction Records, alongside the news that the album has been confirmed as Rough Trade’s Album of the Month for August.
The track is the final single before the album’s release and the most emotionally expansive thing the six-piece have shared from it. Written by co-lead vocalist and co-founder Vera Leppänen, it deals with unrequited effort in a relationship: the exhaustion of giving more than is returned. “Something Else To Give is a song on love and disappointment,” Leppänen has said. “It talks about exerting yourself for someone who doesn’t reciprocate the effort. We wrote it kind of in a flash. The process felt very organic and intuitive; it immediately felt like the obvious closer for the album.”
The announcement follows a run of singles that has built considerable momentum: ‘Only Girl’, ‘Nosedive’, ‘Goddamn, Lizard Man!’ and ‘Get Up And Dance’ have all been added to the BBC 6 Music playlist, as was their pre-album single ‘Adam & Steve’. All were recorded at RAK Studios with Seth Evans and Margo Broom, who also produced Geordie Greep and Black Midi respectively.
An in-store run accompanies the album’s release week, beginning at Rough Trade East in London on 7th August. The full UK and Ireland headline tour follows in September and October, with Glasgow’s King Tut’s and Bristol’s Thekla already sold out. US dates in October and November include a New York night club debut that sold out three months in advance.
