Matt Maltese is back with his new album, Hers, dropping on Friday 16th May. The London-based artist’s sixth studio release, and first fully self-produced album since Krystal, is a deeply introspective dive into love, heartbreak, and reflection.
“I’ve written a lot of music that comes from a place of infatuation, but this record was written on reflection of a much longer-term love,” says Maltese. “It’s a bit like having a year to write a really important email.”
The first single, Always Some MF, sees Maltese embracing his inner faux tough guy. He sings, “He’d have to be clinically dead to not want you,” in a playful take on jealousy and possessiveness.
The single comes with a quirky video, directed by Prasanna Puwanarajah, in which Maltese and actors Nadia Parkes and Ira Mandela Siobhan engage in a fencing match for love. Watch it today at 5pm GMT.
With Hers, Maltese continues to blend heartache with humor, offering listeners his most personal album yet. He’s not just penning love songs, though; he’s digging deeper into his own vulnerabilities. “The job is not to be the coolest guy, the job is to be vulnerable,” he admits.
Pre-order or pre-save Hers now, and catch the album on 16th May.
