Jake Sully and Neytiri are back in James Cameron’s much-awaited sequel to 2009’s Avatar, the highest grossing film of all time.

Sweet Eywa! How we’ve missed the sandy beaches of Pandora. It’s been 13 years since we last visited Pandora, or less if you’re like me and like to return to the blue planet a little more often.

James Cameron scored big with Avatar, which remains the highest grossing film of all time (not adjusted to inflation). The legendary director announced he had plans for not one, but several sequels.

We’ve finally been given our first taster of the first sequel as the teaser trailer for Avatar: The Way Of Water dropped online today. The trailer does exactly what it says on the tin, teasing us mercilessly. Don’t expect big action scenes or massive amount of dialogue; the trailer is clearly designed to simply take you back to Pandora and to admire the CGI.

The synopsis reads: “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”

The first Avatar also made history with its use of 3D; Cameron developed a whole new film rig that helped him capture the whole of Pandora and the Na’vi characters in 3D. It had never been done before and the first Avatar still looks, 13 years later, amazing.

And if we can go by that teaser trailer, Cameron will once again break records and bring us big screen beauty like no one else can. Avatar: The Way Of Water is in cinemas December 16th.
