Birmingham’s Big Special have released a new music video for their latest single, ‘Black Dog / White Horse,’ featuring acclaimed actor Kate Dickie, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Star Wars. The track, which previews their upcoming debut album Postindustrial Hometown Blues, set for release on 10th May via SO Recordings, showcases the band’s intense and pensive style.
Kate Dickie shared her excitement about participating in the video, stating, “Big Special’s beauty and brilliance shines out in their lyrics, music and visuals, ohh I just love them. What an honour and an absolute joy to work with them on ‘Blac Dog / White Horse’. It’s a memory I’ll hold very close to my heart. I don’t say this hardly ever, but I feel good about it. We made it with such passion and commitment and fun and that is just the most special thing of all.”

The song delves into themes of fear, depression, and redemption. Joe Hicklin, the lead vocalist, explained the depth behind the lyrics: “Black Dog / White Horse is about fear, about rumination, intrusive thoughts and cycles of depression. It’s about trying to figure out how to reach out when feelings of guilt and shame take hold. It’s about recognising these things in others, noticing the lost and undervalued, and their increasing numbers.”
Following the album’s release, Big Special will embark on a UK tour, with further international dates anticipated in the autumn. The tour kicks off in Cardiff at Clwb Ifor Bach on 3rd April, moving through major UK cities, including a sold-out show in Sheffield at Yellow Arch Studio on 5th April. The band is also scheduled to support Interpol on their European tour in November, with stops in major cities including Paris, Amsterdam, and London.
