Canadian alt-rock band The Beaches are back, releasing their latest summer anthem, ‘Takes One To Know One’ via AWAL. Known for their refreshing mix of playful and candid music, The Beaches capture the essence of summer with this new track, cementing their reputation as a force in the rock scene.
The song’s release comes just in time for their upcoming North American tour, which includes highly anticipated shows with The Rolling Stones.
The new single ‘Takes One To Know One’ explores the complex dynamics of love and personal growth. It starts with an electrifying guitar riff and a driving beat, delving into how vulnerability can reveal your and your partner’s intricacies. The chorus brims with the excitement of a confessed crush turning into a more profound connection: “God, you’re a piece of work / Oh, it takes one to know one.”
Lead vocalist Jordan Miller reflects on the personal inspiration behind the track: “Recently I’ve had the pleasure of falling in love with a very complicated person. This song – takes one to know one – is about exploring my own culpability in the messy parts of my new relationship, something I wasn’t really capable of doing until now.”
The release follows a string of successes for The Beaches, including a sold-out North American headline tour and a well-received remix of their hit ‘Blame Brett’ featuring Royal & the Serpent. The band’s latest album, Blame My Ex, channels heartbreak into a journey of self-discovery through ten lively tracks, celebrated for their raw honesty and catchy tunes.
With over a decade together, sisters Jordan (lead vocals, bass) and Kylie Miller (guitar), along with their close friends Leandra Earl (guitar and keys) and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums), are setting new milestones. Their single ‘Blame Brett’ alone has amassed over 45 million streams on Spotify and over 10 million views on TikTok. It held the #1 spot on Canada’s Alt Radio for 16 weeks, making it the biggest alternative radio hit of the year.
The Beaches have also been recognized with multiple awards, including the JUNO Award for Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year. Their Blame My Ex tour saw sold-out venues across the globe, and they continue to gather momentum with every release.
