The Flash director says Ezra Miller won’t be replaced as The Flash

The Flash will speed onto our screens this June and director Andy Muschietti has nothing but praise for actor Ezra Miller.

Ezra Miller has dominated the headlines in the last year. The actor has been subject to some very serious allegations which threw the entire DCEU (now just DCU) into chaos. Last year, it seemed more than likely that Warner Bros. was going to bury The Flash on release and never speak of it or Miller again.

Oh, how times change. Not only has The Flash been praised as one of the best superhero films of all time, new DC boss James Gunn hailed it as his favourite film of the year.

The director of The Flash, Andy Muschietti, recently made an appearance on The Discourse podcast (via Variety) where he discussed potential sequels and Miller’s involvement in them.

“If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Andy Muschietti said about Miller returning to the role.

“I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.”

Muschietti’s sister and frequent collaborator, Barbara also added: “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”

Miller apologised for their behaviour last year and vowed to seek mental health treatment.

“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour,” they said in a statement. “I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

Miller has largely been absent from The Flash press tour and is unlikely to make any appearances for a while. But for now, it seems they still have a job at the new DC Studios.

The Flash is in cinemas 16 June.
