There aren’t too many Hollywood studio movies that are basically announced once they’re already shot and ready to go, but Studio 666 is one of them.

Its existence was revealed late last year by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Describing the project as “our dirty little secret for years”, the idea had been percolating of a horror movie involving the band. Now, it’s come to life.

Directed by B J McDonnell, the film brings together a cast led by Grohl, and the rest of his Foo Fighters colleagues. Plus some extra faces as well. As such, you’ll be getting Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee, Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin in the movie as well.

The plot follows the Foo Fighters as they move into an old mansion in Encino. The plan is for them to record their tenth album there, but the mansion itself is – and we quote – “steeped in grisly rock history”. Things, it would be fair to say, go wrong.

As Grohl argues, “we actually went and made a big, loud, bloody horror movie. Because…why the hell not?”

The fact that it’s getting a big, wide cinema release is still – especially in current times – not something taken for granted. But Sony Pictures has now announced plans to release the film exclusively in cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Furthermore, it’s going to be with us on February 25th 2022. In the US, it’s playing in cinemas for one week only. It’s unclear if that’s the plan over here as well.

As McDonnell enthuses,  “I am so excited to have teamed up with the Foo Fighters to create an old school ‘band’ ovie. It’s been years since we’ve seen something like the Beatles Help!, The Monkees’ Head, or KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. Take that 60s/70s old school band film fun, mix it with horror and Studio 666 is born!”.

A trailer for the film has been released, to give you a flavour as to what’s in store. For the minute, we’ll leave you with that…
