Transformers: Rise of the Beasts first trailer swerves in

It’s been a good while since we’ve had a Transformers film, but Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is here to change that. Watch the trailer.

I don’t know about you, but I do have a soft spot for the first Michael Bay Transformers film. It gave Shia LaBeouf his big break and much like the actor’s personal life, the Transformers franchise has gone off the rails and is best left undiscussed.

That being said, 2017’s Bumblebee was genuinely a great, joyous Transformers film, so there was hope still. Let’s hope Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will keep that hope alive.

You can watch the first trailer right here, right now.

The official synopsis reads: “Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film arrives in cinemas June 2023.”

Ramos plays an ex-military electronics expert, who is just looking to support his family in Brooklyn but gets caught up in all the mayhem involving the autobots. Fishback, who impressed audiences in Judas and the Black Messiah, will play an artefact researcher.

The film will also introduce us to the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terracons. Ron Perlman voices Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals who transforms into a giant gorilla.

Optimus Primal mustn’t be confused with Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots. He too returns and will be voiced by Peter Cullen, who has been voicing the character since 1986.

The voice cast is rounded up by Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson and Liza Koshy. Such a stacked cast does seem promising.

Steven Caple Jr. is on directing duties and the script has a whopping five credited writers; Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters, Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will arrive in cinemas 9 June, 2023.
