The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is alleged to have pointed a gun at a former friend last November. Prosecutors are saying he fired the firearm twice, leading to a minor injury for the victim.
If found guilty, the 33-year-old – who had a baby with Rihanna in May this year – could face up to nine years in prison.
Last week, Terell Ephron, who is known as A$AP Relli and is part of the A$AP Mob collective, identified himself as the victim of the shooting. He’s now suing his former friend, alleging assault and battery, negligence and emotional distress.
A$AP Rocky was first arrested in relation to the incident at L.A. International Airport in April, before being released three hours later on a $550,000 ($457,000) bond.
While serving a search warrant after his arrest, police found multiple firearms at Mayers’ home.
His lawyer hasn’t made an immediate comment on the recent charges.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has said: “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences, not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.
“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”
