We’ve done films, it’s only right we highlight some great games from 2022 too.
While a lot of the bigger gaming titles tend to come out closer to the end of the year, there’s been some great gems in the first half of 2022. We’ve still got the next God of War to look forward to this year, but while we wait for Kratos to return, let’s look at some of the best games from 2022 so far.
Elden Ring
It doesn’t get any bigger or better than this. Elden Ring is currently the best selling game of 2022 and has received universal acclaim from both critics and gamers alike. A spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series, also from FromSoftware, players play as Tarnished and travel across the Lands Between to become the Elden Lord. It’s a notoriously difficult game – you’ll need nerves of steel for this one – but also a rewarding one.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
When you put Star Wars and LEGO together, what do you get? Perfection, that’s what. It might seems like a game aimed at children, but LEGO Star Wars is such a satisfying playing experience, especially for Star Wars fans. Including gameplay of all 9 Skywalker Saga films, from Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker, you can swap between legendary characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Rey and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Horizon Forbidden West
Sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West sees players once again take control of Aloy, a fierce female hunter in post-apocalyptic United States where animalistic machines roam the wild. If Jurassic World Dominion didn’t satisfy your dino-needs, this probably will. The sequel introduces underwater exploration and smooths out some of the other gameplay elements, but it remains a visually stunning open-world adventure game.
The Quarry
The newest game on this list, The Quarry was only released just over a week ago, but has already lamented itself as one of the top games of the year. From Supermassive Games, The Quarry is a spiritual successor to Until Dawn, a choice-based horror game from 2015. Rather than relying on exploration and combat, these games emphasise choices and character dynamics to determine the outcome, with several possible endings to each game. The Quarry is a loveletter to 80s slasher films and features an all-star cast including David Arquette and Justice Smith.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pika Pika! Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in the Hisui region of the island Hokkaido, where the player must collect and complete all the Pokémons for their Pokedex. But be careful, the Pokémon in this game can harm you, in a fun little deviation from previous Pokémon games. We’ll never get tired of roaming an open world filled with Pokémon and capturing them.
