Believe it or not, but Cocaine Bear, directed by Elizabeth Banks, is based on the true story of a bear that ingested a duffel bag full of cocaine in 1985. The first trailer has just landed and it looks pretty wild.

The cocaine was dropped off a plane by a narcotics officer after the plane was deemed too heavy. Unfortunately, a lot of people were after that precious white powder, but the bear got to it first.

It’s a story that’s almost too unbelievable to be true but it is, in fact, 100% real. Although Banks’ film is clearly taking some creative liberties and creating a compelling, comedic story around the poor bear.

Have a look at the rib-ticklingly funny first trailer below.

Cocaine Bear is set in a small town in Kentucky where the bear, high on cocaine, starts a gruesome rampage.

The trailer hints at some very violent scenes, including someone getting their arm ripped off.

We can expect Cocaine Bear to be as funny as it is unbelievable. The incredible cast includes Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Isiah Whitlock Jr. as the various townspeople who cross paths with the coked up bear.

The film also features one of the last performances of the late, great Ray Liotta. Liotta plays Dentwood, one of the criminals trying to claim at least some of the lost cocaine back.

There’s still a few more months to go before we get to witness the film in all its glory as Cocaine Bear is in UK cinemas February 24th, 2023.
