DIIV share new single ‘Kid’ from album ZIRP!

DIIV have shared new single ‘Kid’, the second offering from their fifth album, ZIRP!, out October 30th via Fantasy Recordings.

The video was directed by Jaxon Whittington and filmed by vocalist Zachary Cole Smith’s son, Roy, and his friend Julian. ZIRP! also includes previously shared lead single ‘The Fountain’.

The album follows 2024’s Frog in Boiling Water and 2019’s Deceiver, continuing the band’s pull between the harsher textures of shoegaze and grunge and a more melodic, pop-facing instinct. ZIRP!, its title borrowed from the zero interest rate policy era, leans further into that pop side, setting bigger, more direct songwriting against themes of surveillance, societal breakdown and the endless churn of streaming culture.

The record was produced by A.G. Cook, known for his work with Caroline Polachek and Charli XCX. Cook has said he initially expected the job to involve reworking the band’s demos, but instead spent time studying their live shows before recording, insisting on capturing live drums early in the process and keeping computer work to a minimum. He’s described becoming “a bit obsessed with their live sound” as he worked to push the band toward something new.

DIIV play Balaclava Fest in Brazil on September 27th, before a run of North American dates supporting Interpol throughout October, plus a headline show with Basement at LA’s Shrine Expo Hall on October 20th. The band also play Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris and London, and Sonic City Festival in Belgium, in November.
