Blossoms have shared new single ‘Joke About Divorce’, their first new music since the expanded edition of ‘Gary’ in late 2024, out now via their own ODD SK Recordings label and Distiller Music.
The Stockport five-piece recorded the track entirely live on tape at Tile House Studios, a vintage analogue recording facility, with production from Shawn Lee. It continues the disco and funk direction that defined Gary, their fourth consecutive UK number one album, pulling from the same Chic and Kool and the Gang end of the rack while sharpening the pop instinct further.
Rick Astley, who has been close to the band since their celebrated Glastonbury collaboration in 2023, contributes backing vocals on the outro.
The track’s subject is a very specific domestic miscalculation. “During every argument, no matter how big or small, there’s always that moment where humour could completely disarm you both and diffuse the whole thing,” frontman Tom Ogden has said.
“On this occasion, I thought joking about divorce would do exactly that. I just got the timing completely wrong. Instead, it made things worse, and that moment ended up immortalised in a three-and-a-half-minute pop song.”
The video, directed by Ogden, is set on a pink-washed 1970s sitcom-style living room set, with actor Callum Scott Howells appearing as an unexpected compere alongside a troupe of identically styled dancers. NME has confirmed more new music is expected later in 2026.
Blossoms headline Neighbourhood Weekender at Victoria Park in Warrington this summer and appear at Tramlines in Sheffield.
