Dizzee Rascal to play Boy In Da Corner 20th anniversary show at The O2

Dizzee Rascal will headline The O2 on 8 March to mark two decades since the release of his highly acclaimed, Mercury Prize-winning debut album Boy In Da Corner.

Released in July 2003, Boy In Da Corner not only brought a then-18-years-old Dizzee Rascal into the spotlight but was also one of the first albums to give mainstream exposure to grime.

In their original review, for instance, Pitchfork stated the album “stakes a claim that East London is hip-hop’s next great international outpost”. The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis, meanwhile, described the album as “the most original and exciting artist to emerge from dance music in a decade”.

Peaking at 23 in the UK album charts – an impressive feat given its relatively novel genre at the time – it sold over a quarter of a million copies by 2004. It would take 15 years, though, until July 2018 specifically, for it would become certified platinum (selling over 300,000 copies), thereby becoming Dizzee’s second platinum-selling album after 2009’s Tongue n’ Cheek.

Respected in its entirety, the album also contains some of the MC’s best-loved tracks, including ‘I Luv U’, ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’ and ‘Jus’ a Rascal’.

And now fans of both Dizzee, Boy In Da Corner and grime alike have a chance to celebrate the album’s twentieth anniversary at the 20,000 capacity O2 on 8 March.

Speaking about the commemorative show, Dizzee Rascal has said: “It’s mad how it’s 20 years since Boy In Da Corner! That album changed my life and I’m forever thankful to everyone who’s shown love in that time.

“To celebrate two decades on, I’m buzzing to bring something very special to The O2 alongside some very special guests! Make sure to get your tickets and come celebrate with your boy!”
