Studio Canal and New Line Cinema have unveiled the first official image of Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise.
The synopsis reads: “Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, EVIL DEAD RISE tells the twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
Colour us intrigued. Evil Dead has always set all its films firmly deep in the woods, so bringing the action to a city will be a whole different ball game.

The film stars Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols and newcomer Nell Fisher.
It will be the fifth instalment in the Evil Dead franchise if you count the original trilogy as well as Fede Alvarez’s excellent reboot from 2013. There was also a TV series called Ash vs. The Evil Dead which brought back original star Bruce Campbell as the franchise’s hero Ash.

Evil Dead Rise is scheduled for release April 21, 2023 so there’s still a while before the Deadites are unleashed.
