Glass Animals explore love and loss in new single ‘A Tear In Space (Airlock)’

Glass Animals

Glass Animals, the Grammy and BRIT-nominated, platinum-selling British band, have dropped their latest single “A Tear In Space (Airlock)” from the highly anticipated album I Love You So F**ing Much, set to release on 19th July 2024.

The new single delves into the complexities of love, describing a relationship so consuming it causes one to lose their sense of self. “A Tear In Space (Airlock)” features the band’s signature retro-futuristic production and explores themes of control, dominance, and the dichotomy of pleasure and pain. The album is said to play with concepts of scale and perspective, likening a tear in space to both a tiny teardrop and a vast galaxy.

The music video for the single, directed by Taylor Fauntleroy and Drew Kirsch, captures the intense emotional experience of the song. They shared, “This concept really began with Dave’s idea to get himself in a wind tunnel and throw things at him… We did also get to throw some things at Dave which was a highlight.”

Dave Bayley, the band’s frontman, explained, “The roses, the dining table, the candles and the suit are all symbols of love and care. All juxtaposed by a big cold scientific machine made of blades that can only blow things away and destroy.”

In addition to the single and album announcement, Glass Animals have revealed a 44-date global headline tour, starting in North America this August and concluding at London’s The O2 Arena on 7th November. They will also host a pop-up show at EartH in Hackney on 11th June, allowing fans an exclusive first listen to their new material.

I Love You So F**ing Much follows the band’s successful 2020 album Dreamland, which featured the global hit ‘Heat Waves’. Reflecting on the album’s creation, Bayley said, “It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms to push that feeling into a full existential crisis.”
