Howard Shore to headline London Soundtrack Festival with exclusive Q&A with David Cronenberg

London’s first dedicated soundtrack festival will feature live performances, Q&As, and masterclasses from top composers.

The inaugural London Soundtrack Festival, set to take place from 19th to 26th March 2025, was announced today. Headlining the event is the Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, renowned for his work on The Lord of the Rings.

The festival, in association with the BFI, will feature an exclusive in-conversation event with Howard Shore and filmmaker David Cronenberg, celebrating their legendary collaborations. The programme includes live performances, panel discussions, composer Q&As, and masterclasses with prominent names in film, TV, and games music.

Among the highlights is a retrospective of Shore’s work, along with events celebrating composers like Hildur Guðnadóttir (Tar, Joker), Anna Meredith (Eighth Grade), Anne Dudley (Poldark, The Full Monty), Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian), and many more.

The festival will be hosted at several of London’s iconic cultural venues, including Southbank Centre, BFI IMAX, The Roundhouse, and Alexandra Palace. Festival founder Tommy Pearson expressed his excitement: “It’s really exciting to be bringing this brand-new festival to London – the film, TV, and games music capital of the world.”

Howard Shore, who will receive the inaugural Gunning Inspiration Award, shared his anticipation: “It is an honour to be invited to the inaugural London Soundtrack Festival and to be the first recipient of the Inspiration Award.”
