When Smith struck comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards ceremony last year, the fourth Bad Boys film was already confirmed by Sony to be in development. After the slap heard around the world, nobody quite knew if Smith would be a box office attraction anymore. Well, he is. Where there’s money there’s production. Smith and co-Bad Boy Martin Lawrence are reuniting for Bad Boys IV.
“Yo, I’ve got an announcement, y’all better stop scrolling,” Smith says to the camera. The video is actually quite annoying, overly enthusiastic, but I suppose it sells. Then the classic tune of ‘Shake Ya Tailfeather’ by Nelly, P Diddy and Murphy Lee comes in, and you know what’s coming. Smith then arrives at the home of Lawrence, and it becomes clear ‘It’s about that time’. Bad Boys For Life came out in early 2020, just before the pandemic, grossing £346 million at the box office. This was more than the first two instalments in the franchise combined. The duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah directed the 2020 effort, and are believed to be at the helm for the next reunion. El Arbi and Fallah were also behind the ill-fated Batgirl movie that was scrapped having already been made. Will Smith was last seen in Antoine Fuqua’s Emancipation on AppleTV+.View this post on Instagram
