Kurt Vile says Caroline Polachek’s ‘Bunny Is a Rider’ is one of his favourite modern songs

Kurt Vile has expressed his love for experimental pop artist Caroline Polachek. Although he was due to play All Points East festival on Friday on the supporting bill for The National, Vile arrived a day early to catch Polachek’s set from the side of the stage.

Speaking afterwards, the alt-rock artist revealed his admiration for the American singer-songwriter. “I think she’s doing some really interesting things with pop music. ‘Bunny Is a Rider’ is one of my favourite modern songs,” he told us, about Polachek’s acclaimed 2021 single.

Extending praise to Polachek’s regular producer, Danny L Harle, Vile added: “I really like Danny L Harle’s production. It’s catchy.” He also expressed an enduring affection for Polachek’s now defunct synth-pop outfit, Chairlift, calling himself “a fan”.

The singer-songwriter has previous when it comes to collaborations, having released an album with Australian musician Courtney Barnett, Lotta Sea Lice, in 2017. His latest album (watch my moves) also features contributions from the likes of Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, Cate Le Bon, and James Stewart.

At the suggestion of a future collaboration with Polachek, Vile said: “I’m open to collaborating with most people. I like what she’s doing. I’d be open to anything.”

Kurt Vile played All Points East festival on Friday 26th August alongside The National. The festival continues into the weekend with headline sets from Disclosure and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
