Liana Flores writes ‘Silvershoes’ from the perspective of a Hollywood waitress dreaming bigger

British-Brazilian singer-songwriter Liana Flores has announced her new EP, And So It Goes…, due 4 September via Fiction/Verve Records, alongside new single ‘Silvershoes’.

Recorded in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Paul Butler, whose credits include Lord Huron, The Teskey Brothers, Michael Kiwanuka and Andrew Bird, the EP continues the bossa nova-influenced sound Flores established on her 2024 debut album, Flower of the Soul, which has amassed more than 84 million streams to date. The six-track EP moves between the finger-picked guitar of ‘So It Goes’, the funk-inflected ‘So Mysterious’, the Carole King-influenced ‘Here to Stay’, and the sprightly pop of ‘Silvershoes’.

‘Silvershoes’ is sung from the perspective of a Hollywood waitress who imagines a different life after spotting a pair of glamorous silver shoes. Flores has said the song was shaped by ideas from Virginia Postrel’s book The Power of Glamour, in particular its argument that glamour intensifies our yearning for lives we haven’t yet lived.

Flores has described the EP as “the story of the country girl moving to the city,” drawing on her move from rural Norfolk to St Andrews and eventually London, and the shift in perspective that came from touring internationally for the first time.

She has previously opened for Men I Trust, Ichiko Aoba and Belle & Sebastian, and recently collaborated with bossa nova pioneer Roberto Menescal on ‘Midnight Lullaby’ and with Mei Semones on ‘Koneko’. Flores will perform alongside Semones at Verve Records’ 70th Anniversary Show at Central Park’s Summerstage on 2 September, ahead of a full headline tour across the UK, Europe and North America this autumn.
