The Manchester group have been building serious noise across the year, helped by a breakout set at The Great Escape that pushed them onto every “ones to watch” list going. Their sound is a mix of crunch, rush and dense, maximalist pop, which explains why Fiction stepped in. The label’s roster already includes The Cure, St. Vincent, The Horrors and Billie Marten, making this a sharp fit.
‘Only Girl’ arrives fully formed. Written around a jagged violin line, the track began as a grungy jam before the band steered it into something brighter and more direct. It was recorded at RAK Studios with Seth Evans and Margo Broom, both of whom help accent the group’s live energy.
Vera, who fronts the song, says: “‘Only Girl’ is our playful love song. Built around a ripping violin top-line and birthed from a grungy guitar jam, it gradually became something more boisterous and joyful. A total declaration of love. We had a lot of fun making it.”
The track is already a fixture in their live set, landing with the same chaotic jolt that has turned their shows into word-of-mouth events. The band headline London’s Omeara on 2nd December.
