Murder, She Wrote is the latest iconic TV show getting the big screen treatment, but who will be cast as Jessica Fletcher?

It’s easy to get completely disheartened by the lack of originality in Hollywood today. For every Past Lives, there’s The Nun II and a seemingly endless list of upcoming Marvel projects, not to mention the 14 Mattel films currently in development.

Yet, there’s one adaptation that we’re cautiously optimistic and, dare we say, excited for.

Murder, She Wrote, the iconic TV show that ran from 1984 to 1996 is getting a big screen reboot, as reported by The Guardian. Angela Lansbury, who died last year, played amateur detective and writer Jessica Fletcher who investigated the odd, bizarre and downright puzzling murders in her New England seaside town.

While no director or, crucially, star has been announced, we do know who’s penning the film. Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo are in charge of the script. The pair also wrote Dumb Money, which has just premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and is arriving in UK screens later this month.

Sony’s Amy Pascal has also been attached as a producer.

Lansbury scored an Emmy nomination for each of the show’s 12 seasons and while none of those brought her the statuette itself, Lansbury did win four Golden Globes for her work on the show.

This isn’t the first time Murder, She Wrote has been attempted to be adapted for modern audiences. Octavia Spencer was once attached to a loose reboot of the show, but due to negative feedback, it was swiftly cancelled.

There’s no clear timeline on when Murder, She Wrote (the movie that is) would be arriving on our screens, but we’ll keep you posted.
