Lightyear, the impending Toy Story spinoff starring Chris Evans, has a flashy new trailer, where the superhero-turned action figure accidentally flies into the future, and beyond.
Lightyear will chronicle the early life of Buzz, when he was just a regular old astronaut. Not Aldrin, I might add – no matter how succesful this film is, he’ll always be the second most famous intergalactic Buzz.
Nevertheless, in Lightyear, Buzz is fresh-faced and enthusiastic. He is yet to meet Zurg, his eventual nemesis. He is yet to be mass produced and stacked on the shelves of money hungry superstores, nor realise his minuscule existential meaning as one of millions of toys. No, in this, Buzz is real, and he has hair!
Lightyear will be directed by Angus MacLane and made by Pixar. MacLane co-directed another of Pixar’s recent spinoffs, Finding Dory. Pete Docter is writing the film, and he, too, has a long list of Pixar writing credits, including hits like Up, Inside Out, Soul, and Monsters Inc.
You can meet Buzz and his host of futuristic new friends when the film arrives on June 17.
