Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson have released their collaborative single ‘WannaCry’, following a run of live debuts across festivals including Coachella.
The track dates back to Ninajirachi’s first-ever concert as a teenager, seeing Porter Robinson play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre. Just over a decade on, ‘WannaCry’ brings the two together properly, built on a shared affection for computer music and online youth culture.
Written from the perspective of the 2017 WannaCry ransomware virus, the song reframes its malice as something closer to transcendence, pairing Robinson’s electropop instincts with Ninajirachi’s own production style.
The release follows Ninajirachi’s acclaimed debut album, ‘I Love My Computer’, via NLV Records, which has driven sold-out headline shows across her largest Australian rooms to date as part of her Dark Crystal live series. Robinson’s own recent output includes 2021’s Nurture, whose North American tour became the highest-grossing electronic tour of that year, and 2024’s Smile! 😀, his most recent studio album.
‘WannaCry’ is out now.
