The ever-evolving and genre-bending Indian band, Peter Cat Recording Co. (PCRC), has just dropped their latest single, ‘Foolmuse,’ from forthcoming album, BETA. Slated for release on 9th August via Muddy Water, the new album promises to capture the band’s signature transcultural sound and innovative spirit.
The song ‘Foolmuse,’ penned by band member Kartik Pillai, explores the turbulent emotions tied to losing oneself to a “fool’s muse.” Kartik explains, “The song highlights the turbulence of losing oneself to a fool’s muse, however good or euphoric it might make one feel.”
This release follows their poignant single, ‘Suddenly,’ a heartfelt ode from vocalist Suryakant Sawhney to his late father, with a touching video featuring his mother listening to the track for the first time.
As the name suggests, Peter Cat Recording Co. is more than a band; it’s a self-sufficient factory of music and art. With three potent songwriters—Suryakant, Dhruv Bhola, and Kartik—the group builds a legacy that echoes the innovative spirit of bands like The Velvet Underground and The Beatles. Their music is infused with natural sounds, creating a unique timestamp within their recordings.
The upcoming album, BETA, marks a new chapter for PCRC, reflecting their personal growth and experiences since their last release. The title, chosen by drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son, symbolizes “child” in Hindi, aptly representing the band’s evolving journey.
The band is set to embark on a massive 77-date tour, kicking off on 23rd August in Boise, ID. The tour will include headline shows across major cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, interspersed with dates supporting Khruangbin. The tour will wrap up with six dates in India, concluding on 28th December in Kolkata.
