Prima Queen unveil new single ‘Oats’ from their upcoming debut LP The Prize

Prima Queen’s new single 'Oats' is a fun, fearless take on modern love ahead of their debut album The Prize, out 25th April.

There’s nothing quite like a good breakup song, but Prima Queen’s latest single, ‘Oats,’ has a twist: it’s not so much about wallowing in heartbreak as it is about shrugging off the messiness of modern dating.

The track is a cheeky, rock-tinged rumination on love gone wrong, following a whirlwind romance that’s just as chaotic as it is relatable.

“We wanted to make a fun take on the chaos of modern dating,” the band explained, and they’ve certainly delivered. ‘Oats’ is the fourth teaser from their much-anticipated debut album The Prize, due on 25th April.

With its zesty guitar licks, emotive storytelling, and a killer solo from Louise Macphail, the song encapsulates the feeling of a relationship teetering on the edge, before everything falls apart, of course.

Macphail and Kristin McFadden have built a reputation for crafting songs that hit hard, but with an undercurrent of warmth. Their vocals mesh like two old friends finishing each other’s sentences, and that energy is only amplified on The Prize.

Produced by Steph Marziano (who’s worked with Hayley Williams and Let’s Eat Grandma), this record is a heady mix of indie-pop euphoria, with all the wisdom gained from a whirlwind 18-month tour supporting acts like Olivia Dean and Wet Leg.

“After refusing to write another sad song,” they continued, “we wanted to write something that shows it’s okay to walk away from a love that’s not worth it. No one should be begging for love, you should be lavished with it.” Wise words from two of indie’s rising stars. And with ‘Oats,’ Prima Queen is serving up both a banger and a bit of needed self-care for anyone who’s been tangled up in a confusing, heart-racing romance.

If you’ve been following their journey, you’ll know the pair have already earned nods from BBC 6 Music’s Huw Stephens and glowing press coverage from The Guardian, NME, and The Independent.

They’re no strangers to the stage either, having wowed crowds at festivals like Glastonbury and SXSW, with an extensive UK and EU tour already on the cards for 2025. They’ll be hitting up cities like Berlin, Paris, and Bristol, before wrapping things up with a massive London show at Islington Assembly Hall on 22nd May.

And if that’s not enough to get you excited, they’ll also be joining indie royalty The Maccabees at All Points East this summer.
