Sam Akpro doesn’t do half measures. The Peckham-born sonic alchemist is back with ‘Tunnel Vision’, a charged-up new single from his debut album Evenfall, out 28th March.
If the title track set the album’s mood with its slow-burning grandeur, ‘Tunnel Vision’ takes a sharp turn into full-throttle territory: relentless drums, weightless breaks, and Akpro’s vocals locked in like a man staring straight down the barrel of modern burnout.
As Sam puts it, “Tunnel vision is the feeling of being exhausted from the outside world—it’s late at night and everything seems to go past me. I’m watching a series or whatever, but I’m not absorbing a single thing. In short, I’m indulging in mindless distractions.”
It’s a sentiment plenty will recognise, but Akpro doesn’t just sit with it, he turns it into something urgent, kinetic, and impossible to ignore.
Watch the walls close in
The track arrives alongside a video from Pedro Takahashi, who previously worked with Akpro on the MVA-nominated ‘Death By Entertainment’ and the dreamlike visuals for ‘Evenfall’. Expect the same eerie precision when you watch ‘Tunnel Vision’ below.
This latest drop follows a steady build-up to Evenfall, with lead single ‘Evenfall’ already racking up praise from Dazed, NME, Clash, The Face, DIY, and beyond. On the airwaves, Akpro’s momentum is undeniable, with support from BBC 6 Music heavyweights Jamz Supernova, Chris Hawkins, and Tom Ravenscroft, plus Apple Music 1’s Matt Wilkinson.
To celebrate the album’s release, Akpro has lined up a headline show at Moth Club, London, on 24th April. Given his reputation for raw, immersive performances, this one’s a lock for the calendar. Tickets go on sale Friday 21st February at 10 am GMT. Set your alarms.
Evenfall, both the album and the concept, draws its name from that hazy, in-between moment when the day slips into night. Across ten tracks, Akpro and his band (Cameron Jacobs, Joshua Lee, Luke Chin-Joseph, Kyle Creaton, Taylor Devenny) craft a sound that’s jagged yet dreamlike, bruised yet full of pulse.
Co-produced with longtime collaborator Shrink, it’s an album that defies easy categorisation, pulling from post-punk, dub, psychedelia, and UK hip-hop in equal measure.
You can pre-order Evenfall on vinyl, CD, and digital here.
