The legendary director has tipped his creative toes into the world of music videos by tackling Marcus Mumford’s new single ‘Cannibal.’
Is there anything Steven Spielberg can’t do? He has directed pretty much every genre of film and he makes it look easy. Just look at last year’s West Side Story. What a gorgeous picture that was.
The 75-year-old director shows no signs of slowing down either as news broke yesterday that Spielberg has now tried his hand at directing music videos. ‘Cannibal’, the new single by Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, is from Mumford’s first solo album, which is due in September.
Mumford took to social media to confirm the news and posted some behind-the-scenes snaps of Spielberg in directing action. One of the photos shows Spielberg being pushed on a chair to capture a shot. Mumford also revealed that the video was filmed on Spielberg’s phone in one continuous shot.
On Sunday 3rd July in a high school gym in New York, Steven Spielberg directed his first music video, in one shot, on his phone. Kate Capshaw was the almighty dolly grip. pic.twitter.com/9KUvONG4u3

Actress Carey Mulligan, who is married to Mumford, was credited for costumes and sound while Kate Callaway acted as a producer, art director and dolly grip.
It seems to have been a very intimate affair and while we have no idea when we’ll see the finished product, we can only marvel at what a strange pairing the two are. One of Hollywood’s biggest directors simply picked up his phone and filmed Marcus Mumford in a high school gym for a few hours.
Hey, if Steven Spielberg can do it, so can you, so pick that phone up and make that music video for your band’s newest banger!
