Sudeikis’ character, head coach Ted Lasso, will be joined by several players from his AFC Richmond outfit. The development was announced in a new trailer released by EA Sports.
Ted Lasso has been one of Apple TV’s flagship shows and most successful series since it launched in 2020. It follows the fictional English football team AFC Richmond, after a rather clueless, if unwaveringly optimistic, American head coach is appointed.
“Our cast and crew work tremendously hard on this show, and we are flattered that it resonates with so many folks,” Sudeikis said. “We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play with, play as, and even play against their favourite AFC Richmond characters”
On top of head coach Lasso, players available include Roy Kent, Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya and Dani Rojas. AFC Richmond’s home stadium, Nelson Road – which is actually Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park – will also be in FIFA 23.
The Ted Lasso character will be selectable as a manager of AFC Richmond in career mode, as well as for other teams. Equally, players will be able to select other managers to take charge at Richmond.
Brett Goldstein, who plays AFC Richmond hardman and captain, Roy Kent, said: “I look forward to beating my nephew in a game with me as Roy Kent and him as Jamie Tartt. He’s gonna be furious.”
